Cell Phone Recycling on the Rise in the US
By 2005, the United States will be using nearly 200 million cell phones, while approximately 130 million more will be discontinued. Currently, the average American adult owns a total of 2.4 mobile phones, but very few recycle their old phones. In a recent study, only 2.3% of the Americans surveyed recycled their old phones, while more than 70% of respondents were unaware that cellular phones are even recyclable. However, an assortment of charitable and ecological causes have brought cell phone recycling to the forefront. Many organizations, including reclycling programs for earth day, various zoological societies, and even charities dedicated to recovering missing children are now utilizing cell phone recycling programs to raise money for their worthwhile causes.
